On September 2, 2014 in a solemn session of the Senate, the honorable Mr. Barrie Gilbert<\/strong> received the title of Doctor Honoris Causa<\/strong> of the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca<\/strong>. Widely acknowledged as one of the greatest scientific personalities of the later half of the 20th century and the first part of the 21st, Barrie Gilbert represents a milestone in analog electronics. He is a theoretician and a visionary of great profoundness: he is unanimously accepted as having the deepest knowledge about the semiconductor junction; he introduces the translinear circuit class with a wide applicability; he has essential contributions to the field of multipliers, voltage references, linear and logarithmic amplifiers, variable gain amplifiers (VGAs), RMS-DC converters and many other analog integrated circuits.<\/p>\n

The awarding of this prestigious title to Mr. Barrie Gilbert and his inviting to host a guest lecture at the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca was initiated by the Applied Electronics Department<\/strong>, a department whose staff not only teach the works of Mr. Gilbert at their courses, but also see him as a mentor and a role-model in their research activities. For the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, especially for the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Information Technology, the existence of professional ties with specialists from Analog Devices and in a very special manner with Mr. Barrie Gilbert represents more than an opportunity in our efforts for emancipation in a more and more competitive global academic context. That is why, the awarding of the title Doctor Honoris Cause of the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca to Mr. Barrie Gilbert represented a great honor for us.<\/p>\n
